Missouri-Kansas American Cue Sports Pool and Billiards Association Championships PDF Print E-mail
The BiatchesThe MO-KAN ACS Pool and Billiards Association Championships were held this weekend at Sharks Restaurant and Billiards in Shawnee Mission, KS. Pool players from Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma battled it out over two days vying to claim the two-state title.

In the women’s singles division, Played in round-robin format, daughter and mother, Laurie Reninger and Marilyn Dammen, both of Warsaw, Missouri, took first and second. Charity Neumann, Lincoln, Missouri, placed third while Nicole Stock, Sedalia, Missouri, claimed the fourth place position. Challengers in the women’s team division defaulted, giving the Dolly’s, sponsored by Sharky’s Billiards and Burgers and Modern Day Veterans, Chapter 402, an unchallenged championship title.
In the men’s division, Shannon Ward, Sedalia, ran undefeated in the A-bracket to the finals. John Felton, Independence, Missouri, was defeated in his first match and had to battle his way back to the finals through the B-bracket. In the determining match, Ward decisively put Felton away with a score of 7-1, claiming first place and giving Felton second.
Josh Blaylock, Sedalia, had originally been put in the B-bracket by Ward in the fourth round. He lost to Felton, 5-3, in the B-bracket to place third. Jeff Paxton, Sedalia, placed fourth for a decisive showing by Sedalia players in the two-state championship.
In team play, Sedalia’s own 2007 Missouri State Champions, the Sharks, sponsored by Sharky’s Billiards and Burgers and Modern Day Veterans, Chapter 402, ran undefeated in the winner’s A-bracket, annihilating their opponents, the Average Joe’s, Shawnee Mission, 11-5; the Rack Pack, Shawnee Mission, 11-6; and the Wild Thangs, Shawnee Mission, 11-2. The Sharks then had to wait for their match for first place while the battle for second and third was fought.
The match for second was heated. Neither the Wild Thangs nor the Average Joe’s were willing to settle for third. They were hill-hill, and it came down to a game between Steve Parks, Average Joe’s, and Bob Dalton, Wild Thangs.Winning team, MoKan Regional Parks had a chance for the win, but missed a hard three-rail bank shot on the eight ball. Unfortunately for Parks, that moved the eight ball out from the rail just enough that Dalton was able to easily slice it in for the win, giving the Wild Thangs another chance at the Sedalia Sharks in the winner’s bracket.
The Sharks weren’t willing to go home empty handed, though, after traveling to Shawnee Mission to defend their 2007 Missouri State title. With no mercy, they defeated the Wild Thangs 11-4, taking first place and claiming the 2008 Missouri-Kansas ACS Pool and Billiards Association Team Championship title.
The 2008 Missouri State 8-Ball 10-Point Handicap Team Championships will be held April 18-20 at Sharky’s Billiards and Burgers, in Sedalia, Missouri.
